Frequently
Asked

Common questions about purchasing, transfers, shipping, and compliance.

Do I need an FFL to purchase firearms from you?
No. You do not need your own FFL license to purchase firearms. You must be legally eligible to own firearms and pass the required background check. If purchasing online, the firearm must be shipped to a licensed FFL dealer (like us) for the transfer process.
What ID do I need to bring?
A valid government-issued photo ID is required — Driver's License, State ID, or Passport. Colorado residents should have a Colorado ID. Out-of-state residents may purchase long guns (rifles/shotguns) in-state, but handguns must be transferred through an FFL in your home state.
Do you offer military or law enforcement discounts?
Yes. Active military, veterans, and law enforcement receive discounts on select items. Bring valid credentials or ID. See our B2B page for agency-level purchasing programs with volume pricing.
Can I order items not listed on your website?
Yes. We have access to thousands of products through our supplier network. Contact us with the specific item details (manufacturer, model, UPC if available) and we'll provide a quote and availability estimate.
Do you buy or trade used firearms?
Yes, we purchase used firearms and accept trade-ins. Bring the firearm to our location for evaluation. All purchases and trades must comply with federal transfer requirements — both parties complete ATF Form 4473.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit/debit cards (processed via GunTab), cash, and certified checks. GunTab fees (2.5% + transaction fee) are paid by the buyer as required by our payment processor agreement. This keeps our product pricing clean and transparent.
How do I track my order?
Once your order ships, you'll receive a tracking number by email. Firearms orders show 'Processing' until FFL verification is complete, then ship to your chosen dealer.
Can I cancel my order?
Non-firearm orders can be cancelled before shipping — contact us immediately at info@blackhawkltd.com. Once a background check is initiated on a firearm, the sale cannot be reversed per ATF regulations.
Do you offer layaway?
Yes, we offer layaway on firearms and select high-value items. Contact us at (970) 344-7213 for terms and eligibility. A deposit is required to hold the item.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes, we ship non-firearm products nationwide. Firearms are shipped to licensed FFL dealers in all 50 states (subject to state-specific restrictions). Certain items (ammunition, magazines) have state shipping restrictions.
When does my order ship?
In-stock orders placed before 2 PM MST ship same day (Monday–Friday). Orders after 2 PM or on weekends ship the next business day. Special/distributor orders typically ship within 3–5 business days.
Is there free shipping?
Yes. Orders over $100 qualify for free standard shipping on non-firearm items. Firearm shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on carrier rates, distance, and package weight.
Why can't you ship ammunition to my state?
Certain states restrict ammunition shipments or require in-store purchase only: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Washington DC have restrictions. These are state laws we must comply with.
How long does the background check take?
Most background checks through Colorado's CBI InstaCheck system complete within minutes to a few hours. In rare cases (Delay status), the FBI may take up to 3 business days to respond. You cannot take possession of the firearm until a Proceed result is received.
What is the waiting period in Colorado?
Colorado law (C.R.S. § 18-12-115) requires a minimum 3-day waiting period between background check initiation and firearm transfer. This applies to all purchases — there are no exceptions, even if your background check clears immediately.
What if my background check is denied?
If denied, the transfer cannot proceed. You may appeal directly through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation at (303) 239-8062 or the FBI NICS Section at (304) 925-4829. We cannot influence or expedite the appeals process.
What is a straw purchase? Why does it matter?
A straw purchase is when someone buys a firearm on behalf of another person. This is a federal felony under 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(6), punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The person completing ATF Form 4473 must be the actual buyer.
Can I buy a handgun if I'm from out of state?
No. Federal law prohibits FFL dealers from transferring handguns to residents of other states. The handgun must be shipped to an FFL dealer in your home state. Long guns (rifles/shotguns) may be purchased in-person in Colorado by out-of-state residents, subject to both Colorado law and your home state's laws.
Can I return a firearm?
Once ATF Form 4473 has been initiated, firearm sales are final and cannot be returned under federal law. If a firearm arrives defective or materially different from its description, contact us immediately to initiate a resolution.
What is your return window for non-firearm items?
Most non-firearm items can be returned within 14 days of purchase for a refund or exchange. Items must be in new, unused condition with all original packaging, tags, and accessories. See our Returns page for complete details.
Can I return ammunition?
No. Ammunition cannot be returned for safety and regulatory reasons. Please verify compatibility before purchasing.
Who pays return shipping?
If returning due to a change of mind or wrong item ordered, customer pays return shipping. If we sent the wrong item or the item arrived defective, we cover return shipping costs. A Return Authorization (RA) number is required for all returns.
